To nurture a community invested in accelerating New Zealand's innovation ecosystem across blockchain, web3, and financial technology products. The Weave drives collaboration and connectivity.
Our Name
The name originates from the concept of a weaving loom, which holds divergent threads and facilitates their integration. The original loom was a key invention that transformed the textile industry and facilitated the industrial revolution. The Weave is the loom of today, with organisations at the forefront of technology in fintech and digital transformation.
Our Purpose
The New Zealand incubator and accelerator ecosystem is fragmented and specialised, with little support for web3/blockchain in Auckland or nationwide. There is an abundance of frontier research that gets published but is rarely commercialised, let alone applied to any methodologies that can be evolved by the community. New Zealand lacks a regulatory sandbox to support productisation within a compliance-approved process for new financial products. There are very few local funding pathways that cater to FinTech & Web3 entrepreneurs in New Zealand.
The Weave has been recognised by the University of Auckland as an industry partner with the Newmarket Innovation Precinct (NIP) in respect to web3, blockchain, and financial products. We will host the University of Auckland Blockchain Club, supported by Uniservices, along with industry activators like Callaghan Innovation, associated with this fast-growing domain.
We plan to host New Zealand's first FinTech Sandbox which will provide a regulatory environment supporting a 'FinTech Corridor Programme' between New Zealand and other APAC Markets.
Entrepreneurs in New Zealand are not known for their collaborative spirit because the market here is thin and competitive. As a standalone market, New Zealand fails to offer the depth of opportunity of Australia or Singapore. To date, the significance of blockchain and Web3 solutions has not been recognised by government and industry bodies to the extent it has been in Australia, Hong Kong, or Singapore.
The Weave will offer the first and only purpose-designed collaborative space and launchpad for blockchain and web3 communities in New Zealand. We believe that by partnering with New Zealand's largest tertiary institution, The Weave will provide fertile ground for fusing tertiary, regulatory, and industry interests within a progressive, forward-thinking body – a story that began with Easy Crypto's tenure at the NIP, now an international success story.
The Weave ecosystem is well-positioned to support many more.
